Hello Friend!

I am Luna, a Sewist & Fabric Artist, who enjoys creating

functional and artistic items from fabric.

I enjoy spending my time creating & designing fabric creations

and helping others learn how to sew and do the same.

My side hobbies are collecting fabric, creating patterns,

and traveling with my husband and little dog.

In my day-to-day life, I am fueled by coffee and Jesus.

Sewist - Fiber Artist - Sewing Teacher

How it started:

My interest/hobby in sewing began when I was around 5 years old. As an adult, I not only still enjoy sewing but also enjoy creating sewing patterns and teaching others how to sew. Over time this has evolved from a hobby into an offical business in 2024. Like many hobbyists who enjoy making things for others, I began to hear, “You should sell this; people would totally love this,"  “What pattern did you use to make this?" "Do you sell your patterns?" and "Can you teach me to sew?" and so on. So, I started testing my patterns and fabric items out through friends and family. From there, I went through the process of turning my hobby into an official business once I had a set of starter items to launch with.

Why is it called Stitches That Wander, LLC?

For as long as I can remember, I have been a mixed-media artist and sewist. I have tried just about every

arts-and-crafts project that is out there. I even had a successful pottery studio for several years, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I had to close it down because at that time, I was moving across the country.

Sewing and working with fabric have been the one constant arts and crafts in my life. I named the business Stitches That Wander because, although sewing and artfully working with fabric are my primary focus, I also enjoy dabbling in painting and clay. I like to say that I let my stitches wander at times into other arts and crafts mediums. From time to time, depending on the market, you may find seasonal non-fabric items that I have also created.

Are all of your items really handmade?    YES!

I get this question alllll the time. Along with comments like “your items are too well-made, this can’t be handmade. etc.” YES! ALL of the items that are sold under the Stitches That Wander name are Handmade!

I understand why people question this, as nowadays you can find many cheap knock-offs of what appear to be handmade items. Rest assured that all items are handmade.

Have you always sewn? Did you go to school for it?

I come from a family of women who have always sewn. My minor in college was Art / Fashion Design. Over the years, I have taken sewing classes, workshops, and private lessons. Through a lot of trial and error, I have learned how to improve my skills and design work. At a young age, I was accepted into a fashion school in New York City. However, I was so young at the time and not ready to live on my own, so I turned down the opportunity. It turns out I am much happier being a Sewist than making clothing for a living. I also dabble in a bit of quilt making.

Growing up, my mom was a seamstress and made my sister and me amazing clothes when we were young. My paternal grandmother was also a sewist. Between the two of them, I learned how to sew. As a child, I would play on the floor of my mom’s sewing room, creating little things out of fabric. The other women in my family were hand sewers, knitters, and crocheters.

Sewist vs Seamstress:

I often get asked if I alter clothes. No, I am not a seamstress, I am a Sewist and Fiber Artist.

What is the difference, you ask?

A seamstress is someone who creates and/or alters clothing. A Sewist, which is what I am, is someone who creates sewn works of art using fabric and makes useful, functional things out of fabric. At a young age, I was accepted into a fashion school in New York City. However, I was so young at the time and not ready to live on my own, so I turned down the opportunity. It turns out I am much happier being a Sewist. I also dabble in quilt making.

Do you teach sewing classes and give private lesson?

I am currenlty not accepting any more students. Yes! Please click here for more information.

It takes a village:

As a small business owner, I wear all the hats, and it’s an over-40-hour work week. I am the social media tech, accountant, artist, designer, website designer, inventory manager, fabric and supply buyer, sewist, teacher, booking agent for all markets and events, booth layout designer, and manufacturer of all items. I am constantly working on my small business as well as sewing to keep up with inventory.

It does, however, take a village, as they say, to get it all done. I am blessed to have two people in my life who have signed up to volunteer for jobs they never applied for and don’t get paid for. Many of you have met my Mom, Tony, at the various markets and events. She helps me out in SO many ways. She helps to run the booth with me at markets and events, to sew up items, design patterns, and products that I sell in my booth at the various markets and events. I also have my Husband, Mike, who is the muscle behind the scenes, who transports, carries, and helps us set up and take down the booth each time.
